About Department

                     The Department of Marathi in Vivekananda College was established in 1964. The Marathi department of the college is increasing the love of Marathi as mother tongue among the students. It has been a continuous effort of the department that students should develop their own personality by doing creative writing and research writing in Marathi and they should create a distinct identity in the society. As a part of this, many former students of the department have achieved remarkable success in social, cultural, academic, literary, art, sports fields. Amar Kulkami, Ruchika Khot and Santosh Bhange from this department have achieved success in the field of theater by pursuing post graduation. Two of them have received the Shaheed Tukaram Ombale Award of Shivaji University. Reshma Lavate, Bhagyashree Redekar and Swati Shetke are the first in Marathi subject in Shivaji University and have received a total of 6 awards. Bhagyashree Redekar. Reshma Lavate have cleared the NET exam. Asawari Nagvekar, Akshay Polke, Sushant Sarvagowde, Omkar Buchde are working in the field of student art. Ex-student of Marathi Department Dr. R. K. Shanediwan is working as Principal in Shree Shahaji Chhatrapati College, Kolhapur while Prof. Dr. Eknath Alvekar is working as the head of Marathi department in this college.

                  Former Head of Marathi Department Prof. B. K. Gosavi has served as the Chairman of the Board of Studies of this college. For making the textbook Prof. B. K. Gosavi and Prof. Dr. Pradip Patil has done the important work of editing four textbooks for B. A. I class namely Avkash, Sanvad. Sahityaruchi and Shabdaveena. Professor of Marathi Subject Principal Dr. H. B. Patil has held the post of principal for ten years. As the head of the department Dr. D. A. Desai has also contributed to the development work of the college for nearly 30 years.

                 Prof. B. K. Gosavi has received many awards for writing stories and poems like Suresh Kulkarni Memorial Award, Audumbar Sahitya Kala Yatri, Poet Jagdish Khebudkar Pune, Damsa Award for Story, Kolhapur, Rajshree Shahu Award, Theravadi. He has also written lyrics for the films Bhumiputra and Phalat. Dr. Pradip Patil has received his Ph. D. degree from Shivaji University on Sharadchandra Chatterjee's Translated Literature from Marathi. Also Dr. Pradeep Patil has received Yashwantbhuashan National Award, Narrator Venkatesh Madgulkar Mandeslu Sahitya Gaurav National Award.

                Sattasangharsha by Prof. Dr. Swapnil Buchade is published. Currently Prof. Dr. Ekanath Alwekar is working as the head of the department. He has worked as a member of Shivaji University Marathi Study Board. Three books have been published and he has received the Best Review Book Award from Prof. Chandrakumar Nalge Public Library and Dakshin Maharashtra Sahitya Sabha, Kolhapur. Also, Prof. Dr. Eknath Alvekar received Shivaji University Meritorious Teacher Award of Shivaji University Marathi Teachers Association. This department is continuously working to produce successful, famous and meritorious students.
